Teacher Training

At the University of Southampton Education School we offer a range of programmes that will allow you to train to teach or extend your subject knowledge whilst working with internationally respected academics and also experience world-leading research as it happens.

Our courses and programmes are designed for: 

- those wanting to train straight from their university degree;
- those wanting a career change into teaching;
- those needing to improve subject knowledge in order to train as computer science, mathematics or physics teachers (through Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE courses);
- those already teaching but wishing to improve their subject knowledge in mathematics, physics or chemistry (Teacher Subject Specialism Training courses);
- those with overseas degrees wishing to train as teachers in England and Wales;
- those with 2 or more years' experience as unqualified teachers (Assessment Only route).

Professional Skills tests

Applicants to all Teacher Training courses must take and pass the Government's Professional Skills tests before starting the course, apart from PGCE-FE.

Information is available on the DFE Website, including practice tests in Literacy and Numeracy.
