Research project: Quantifying the impact of urbanisation and climate change on the microclimate of Bhubaneswar

Currently Active:
Yes

The overall aim of the project is to quantify the effect of combined land cover and climate change on the Urban Heat Island and surface energy balance in Bhubaneswar.

Start Date: 1/04/15

End Date: 31/12/21

Bhubaneswar, the capital of state of Odisha, has undergone rapid urbanisation over the last two years. The impact of rapid urban growth and climate change induced increase in temperature would make the effect of urban heat island (UHI) worse in future and would impact the sustainable development of the city. Therefore, the aim of the project is to quantify the impact of urbanisation and future climate change on the UHI and provide policymakers and town planners concrete evidence and possible suggestions which can be incorporated in future planning. The project will combine range of satellite data to measure the extent of UHI and will deploy modelling tools to quantify these impacts at present and in future.
