Who we are

Athena Swan Bronze Award logo
We were awarded the Athena SWAN Bronze Award in 2017

From global environmental change to economic transformation, our Geography and Environmental Science staff are actively involved in researching the major issues affecting our planet.

We work with industry and governments to address some of the key problems facing the world today, including sustainable development; conservation of biodiversity; resource management; social and health inequalities; and poverty. We also have an excellent reputation for the quality of our teaching, high-calibre research and social impact.

We are home to The Centre for Environmental Sciences, a collaborative enterprise with Biological Sciences, Ocean and Earth Sciences, and Engineering. Our Environmental Science school also offers consultancy through the Research Institute for Industry and in fields such as environmental impact and ecological assessment; waste auditing; monitoring and pollution control; and carbon footprinting.
