Studying Medicine was a natural choice for me because I wanted a career where I could strike a balance between scientific practice and working with people.

I feel very proud to have studied at Southampton – it has given me the skill base and knowledge to be a junior doctor and further grow and develop as a person and professional from this point onwards

Southampton has a good standing as a university with a good reputation. The campus itself is also attractive with great library facilities. Medical students also study at Southampton General Hospital where there are good lecture theatres, clinical skills rooms and common areas to spend time with colleagues.

There are also lots of opportunities to take up when studying medicine at Southampton that will not only put you in a great position for your career but for many aspects outside of work as well.

A strong aspect of Southampton’s Medicine course is the early patient contact; this allows you to feel more comfortable on the wards in order to get the most out of every placement. I’ve also been able to participate in teaching younger years and school children, the skills obtained from this will be incredibly beneficial in future practice. The opportunity to spend an extra year to complete an intercalated Master’s degree and experience research is something I would really recommend.

One of my particular university highlights was being placed in Jersey for six months with a good group of friends, where I learnt a lot.
