State Authenticity in Situ: A Tale of Two Experience-Sampling Studies

Alison Lenton

University of Edinburgh

It is only recently that authenticity has been investigated from a state, rather than trait, perspective. The research presented in this talk adds to this growing body of literature by examining a range of correlates and causes of different components of state authenticity. In particular, we conducted two experience-sampling studies - one using the day reconstruction method and the other using an Android phone app - to determine the factors that contribute to feeling like one's "true self" at a given moment in time.
