The HRU has an international reputation for its resin immunohistology. We employ a modified glycol methacrylate processing and embedding procedure adapted for immunohistochemistry, that is especially suited for small mucosal biopsies [Britten KM, et al. Biotechnic Histochem 1993;68:271-280].
This technique offers several advantages over conventional frozen and paraffin protocols; it gives good antigen preservation, excellent morphology & localisation of antigens, no antigen retrieval required, and numerous sections and serial sections are possible from one small biopsy sample.
