Medicine

Research strategy

For nearly 50 years, the Faculty of Medicine has made a substantial impact on medical practice within the UK and around the world, taking discoveries from the laboratory into the patient clinic.

Our bench to bedside approach sees our scientists, researchers and clinical academics leading ground-breaking studies which are changing the world for the better.

As a Faculty, we have invested in multidisciplinary research teams, creative educational programmes, translational research programmes, clinical infrastructure, and enterprise to deliver our vision to:

Lead innovative learning and discovery for better health across the life course.

Through this vision we are committed to fostering multidisciplinary, translational research; inspiring and equipping future generations of scientists and clinicians to meet the challenges of a changing world; promoting and leading partnerships and collaborations within the Faculty, across the University, regionally, nationally and globally; and pushing the boundaries of current practice to foster a culture of innovation and enterprise.

In partnership with University Hospital Southampton

A foundation of the Faculty’s success has been the strong partnership between the University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton. The relationship draws strength from the very best of Southampton’s basic science research in biomedicine, psychology, social sciences, electronics and computer science and mathematics and allows us to continually pursue excellence in health and social care research, education and professional practice.
