iPhD Web Science

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Web Science Innovation offers a four year integrated iPhD programme in Web Science. This interdisciplinary programme aims to equip graduates with socio-technical expertise to become leaders in the Digital Economy.  The programme combines Masters and doctoral study with additional tailored training and collaboration with partner organisations.  Full studentships are funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the University.

Please note: The four year iPhD programme will no longer be accepting new applications after 2018. A three year PhD in Web Science is offered by the School of Electronics and Computer Science.  Applicants with suitable prior interdisciplinary experience and research interests who can meet the eligibility criteria below may be eligible for CDT funding (subject to availability).

iPhD Programme Structure

The course begins with a one-year full-time taught MSc in Web Science which provides a broad basis for understanding the technology of the Web and the social context in which the technology operates.  This is followed by a three years of interdisciplinary PhD research jointly supervised by academic staff from two or more subject areas. A wide range of disciplines can be combined to suit the individual research interests of each student, including Computer Science, Law, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Humanities, Business, Medicine, Education and Geography.
