Dr Samuel Keyes is Research Fellow within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.

I am an engineer who uses advanced 3D imaging and image-analysis to conduct research into biological systems. My particular expertise is in the following:

I work closely with the Southampton Centre for Computed Tomography, and a variety of synchrotron and spallation facilities, particularly the Swiss Light Source , the Diamond Light Source and the ISIS Neutron Facility.

Research projects

Since my PhD viva in 2013, I have been funded by an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship (2014), a BBSRC/NERC/Gates Grant investigating Zn deficiency in rice (2015), and an ERC Consolidator Grant investigating root/soil interactions using 3D imaging and mathematical modelling at the micron-scale (2015 - Present).
