Referrals and Deferrals

Covid-19

Supplementary 2020 exams will now NOT take place on campus.

We don’t yet know what arrangements will be in place if you have to retake any of your assessments. Please keep monitoring the FAQs on the COVID-19 webpage https://www.southampton.ac.uk/studentadmin/academic-support-guidance/index.page page for any updates, and as soon as we have anything confirmed we’ll post it here too.

Terminology:

Referral – The term Referral is used when you have not met the pass criteria of a module and have to undertake re-assessment before the start of the next academic year in order to progress to the next stage of your course or gain your final award.

Deferral – A Deferred examination is the sitting of an examination at a time other than the original scheduled time/date. Due to some special considerations, you may be sitting the exam under mitigated circumstances; this is when your faculty have agreed you are re-sitting your examination as if for the first time.
