Documents to prepare

These are the academic qualifications listed on your CAS statement under evidence used to obtain offer.

Courses at degree level (Bachelor's) and above:  you will not normally need to provide evidence of your academic qualifications. This is because the University of Southampton is a Higher Education Provider with a track record of compliance. You must, however, prepare your documents, including certified translations (if not in English or Welsh) before you make your visa application.  This is because the caseworker deciding your visa application can request these documents at any point during their assessment of your visa application.

Courses below degree level: you must provide all academic documents listed on your CAS with your visa application.

To apply for a Student visa, you need to prepare enough money to pay your tuition fees and support yourself while you are studying in the UK. This is in addition to the cost of applying for a Student visa.

Who needs to evidence funds?

The following students will need to evidence funds unless they are from an exempt country:

  • Outside the UK visa applications, you must prepare financial evidence for your visa application.
  • Inside the UK applications where you have been in the UK with immigration permission for less than 12 months on the date of your Student visa application, you must prepare financial evidence for your visa application

Students who do not need to evidence funds

For students that are applying for a Student visa in the UK and have been living in the UK with immigration permission for 12 months or more on the date of your Student visa application, you will meet the financial requirement and do not need to show financial evidence.  However, if you are a government sponsored student, you will need to provide permission from your financial sponsor to remain in the UK.

Students applying for a Student visa as a Student Union Sabbatical Officer, will meet the financial requirement and do not need to show financial evidence.
