Working at the forefront of their fields, our academics are committed to the highest quality scientific investigation to address the big clinical questions.

Health Sciences research at Southampton is multidisciplinary and is regarded as among the very best in the country. Our work in Nursing and Midwifery was ranked second in the latest assessment of quality (RAE 2008). We are known internationally for our research programmes on cancer and care at the end of life, rehabilitation technologies, workforce and urgent care. Southampton also leads the way on research into clinical problems such as continence and medicine management and involves many partners.

Continuing excellence

Our research is rooted in our strong links with the NHS and other health care organisations. Graduates are encouraged to return to University to explore new developments in their professional area.

Research Awards

All of our research students become a member of our Graduate School which provides an induction programme as well as a comprehensive research training programme. This includes project design, analysis techniques, IT skills and project management.
