Dr Amy Halls BA, MA, PhD
Research Manager at NETSCC

Dr Amy Halls is a Research Manager at the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre.
Dr Halls has a strong background in health research, focusing on the use of qualitative and mixed-methods approaches, specifically within primary care.
As part of a study funded by Health Education England Kent, Surrey and Sussex, Dr Halls and colleagues used mixed-methods to explore how to improve care of the acutely-ill patient in primary care by enhancing interprofessional working, using in-situ simulation (2017-2019).
Through her PhD in Sociology ( ‘Marginal Men: Men with breast cancer negotiating gender’ , Durham University, 2014) she developed an interest in people’s illness experiences and how these can be explored using a variety of data sources and qualitative methodological approaches. As a postdoctoral researcher in Primary Care and Population Sciences, University of Southampton, Dr Halls worked on a number of research studies: these used qualitative methods to explore different aspects of people’s experiences of health and wellbeing, with a focus on antibiotic stewardship.
