Dr Clare Lockyer-Stevens (née McDermott) MSc, PhD

Research Fellow

Dr Clare Lockyer-Stevens (maiden name Clare McDermott) is a Research Fellow within Medicine at the University of Southampton. 

I am a post-doctoral researcher based at the Primary Care Research Centre, University of Southampton.  

I completed my PhD in 2016 at the University of Southampton, funded by the School of Primary Care Research as a NIHR doctoral student. My PhD included a mixed-methods feasibility study of a community based intervention for severe Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME (CFS/ME) and a national scoping exercise on service provision for severe CFS/ME in England.

Having worked over the past 18 years both in qualitative research and clinical trials, my current areas of interestinclude:

• the use of qualitative research techniques to support and optimise recruitment within Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) and to support, inform and assist in the interpretation of RCT results 
• Process evaluation within RCTs 
  The use of qualitative research to study communication between clinicians and patients, especially within primary care
• Patient and Public Involvement, and Engagement, including the co-development of new interventions in partnership with current and/or recovered patients. 

I also have a particular interest in Patient and Public Involvement, especially the co-development of new interventions in partnership with current and/or recovered patients.
