A shorter UEB agenda today due to the coming Easter break.

UEB has today endorsed proposals for a new approach to redeployment. The changes support staff going through redeployment and also respond to concerns raised in the Staff Engagement Survey. This proposal will now be discussed with the recognised trade unions over the coming weeks.

The USS Pension update presentations scheduled for 29 April and 2 May will continue as planned, even though there remains uncertainty about the way forward. Brendan Mulkern who visited during autumn last year and led very well-received sessions will also lead these update sessions. Details can be found here.

The University of Southampton has a range of subsidiary companies. A number of changes in Directors are required and as per Finance Policy 11, these were approved by UEB.

The Q1 Health and Safety statistics were reviewed and the focus on continuous progress recognised. Stress and muscular skeletal combined are the largest recorded reasons for ill health absence running at 39 per cent in Q1, with an overall total of 8,880 days lost in January-March this year. In terms of injuries; slips, trip and falls added 11 cases out of a total of 26. Our near miss reporting statistics continue to improve, and all staff are encouraged to work towards a safe working environment through recording near misses whenever identified.

Wellington Lecture: 31st Wellington Lecture, Saturday 13 April, given by Professor Chris Woolgar on the title of: Wellington, the “Scum of the Earth” and the army in the Iberian Peninsula. Excellent lecture and well attended.

A reminder that Mental Health Awareness week commences on 13 May, with a wide range of activities all week. Please keep an eye out for announcements on SUSSED News.

A reminder of University closure days on Wednesday and Thursday this week, followed by the Easter break. UEB wished everyone a very enjoyable break.
