A shorter than usual meeting this morning, as UEB members prepared to join members of our governing Council for their annual awayday starting later the same day.

  • There was an update on the Super Recruiter Project, initiated as part of the institutional Athena Swan quick wins action plan, to make a positive contribution to our wider ED&I objectives. The Super Recruiter acts as a role model to promote, advocate and share good inclusive recruitment practise across the University, and works with the hiring manager to create opportunities to widen the search and enhance inclusivity of candidates. UEB welcomed the update and encouraged the further embedding of the initiative.
  • UEB were delighted to learn there have been more than 600 applications for our Anniversary Fellowships Scheme, an exciting opportunity for 25 exceptional early-career researchers to advance their research careers over the next five years. Interviews will take place in July.
  • UEB carried out the regular review of the University Risk Register, which prompted a discussion about the need for scenario planning over the coming months and for the next academic year, recognising it is still possible there could be continuing COVID restrictions in certain countries, and potential impacts on travel for some international students.

The Vice-Chancellor ended the meeting by expressing his and UEB’s huge gratitude and appreciation to Professor Alex Neill, attending his very last UEB meeting as Vice-President (Education), after more than 10 years in the role.

Due to the Easter closure period, the next scheduled UEB meeting will take place on Tuesday 26 April.
