- UEB received briefings from the Vice-Chancellor and the Vice-President International and Engagement on their respective and very positive recent visits to University of Southampton Malaysia; and to India, one of a number of countries where we are considering potential options for new international campus activity.
- UEB noted with regret the news last week that the Chief Executive of Southampton City Council is standing down from the role. We have enjoyed a very constructive working relationship, in the shared interests of the city, and look forward to forging similar bonds with his eventual successor.
- UEB noted two papers which will be discussed at the next meeting of our governing Council. The first provided a summary of the results of the most recent staff engagement survey, which saw a very positive 3% increase in the overall engagement score to 77%, exceeding our 75% key performance indicator (KPI), and with a similar percentage increase in the response rate to 69%. The second paper, Monitoring the Success of the University Strategy, provided Council with an update on the KPI dashboard, which it reviews three times each year.
- UEB considered a briefing note on the potential implications of proposed revised immigration policies, with revised salary thresholds, as discussed at last week’s UEB meeting. Further clarity is still awaited from the Government on key details.
- UEB noted that January exams had started on Monday and wished our students well; the Vice-Chancellor noted that this week he will be holding the first of more than 30 Town Hall meetings with schools and departments over the next couple of months, to provide an update on delivery of the Strategy and to hear from colleagues; and there was the regular review of the University Risk Register.
