Gifty Abban, BSc(Ghana), MPhil(Ghana), MSc(Lancaster), PGCert(Lancaster) Postgraduate Student of Southampton Business School.

Gifty Abban is a postgraduate student at University of Southampton Business School taking her PhD in Business Studies and Management. She is with the Centre for Research in Accounting, Accountability and Governance (CRAAG) where she is undertaking a research on Governance. Prior to this position, she was a Lecturer at the Business Studies Department of Lancaster University Ghana Campus. Modules she has handled over the period in Lancaster include Corporate Finance, Principles of Finance, Principles of Economics, Introduction to Accounting and Finance for Managers, Principles of Financial Accounting and Career Skills for Accounting and Finance. While lecturing in Lancaster she obtained her Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and also undertook some scholarly activities including participation in the Global Research Fund Project on Eco-innovation in Africa administered by the Lancaster Environment Centre.
Gifty acted in non-executive positions in the governance of some micro-enterprises in Ghana while lecturing which developed her understanding of the practicalities in governance within the African context and informs her interest in corporate reporting and governance in Africa. She worked as a teaching and research assistant in the University of Ghana after her undergraduate studies and during her master’s programme which helped shape her skills in academic practice and research.

She was a 2014/2015 Commonwealth Shared Scholar at Lancaster University, UK where she obtained her MSc International Business degree. Gifty obtained her MPhil Finance degree and BSc Administration in Banking and Finance from the University of Ghana and has one publication on Governance in the African Review Journal.

Her research interests are in corporate governance, financial markets, corporate reporting and development in growth economies.
