Doctoral Researcher and Teaching Assistant

Ivan's research is about conceptualising alternative theories that could address the shortcomings of the established norms and views about entrepreneurial
success.

My experience as a Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation has been excellent.

Ivan joined Southampton in 2015 to pursue a BSc in Business Philosophy. In his second year, after meeting his current supervisor in a module that inspired him, Ivan developed a deep interest in asking and addressing the big questions about the role of businesses in society and how the answer could be found in philosophy.

In 2019 Ivan completed his MSc in International Management and started his Doctoral programme in Entrepreneurship, problematising the established views of entrepreneurial success through the philosophy of luck.

Following a three-paper thesis format, Ivan is currently in his second-year at the Business school and is writing his second academic paper. Aside from his Doctoral research, Ivan is also a Peer Advisor at the Business school, organising and leading educational and wellbeing sessions for postgraduate students.

Additionally, Ivan is a Teaching Assistant in the module MANG6273 Managing within a Global Context.

"My experience as a Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation have been excellent so far. I am lucky enough to have three outstanding and inspiring supervisors, who have helped me achieve what I intended to achieve and pushed me outside of my comfort zone, so I can learn and develop my research skills. They have been supportive, caring, yet rigorous as to what needs to be done, and they have accepted me warmly as part of the department since day one. I could not imagine having different supervisors in my PhD journey.

The PhD course at Southampton Business School is organised in a way to meet the student’s needs and the friendly members of staff are always ready to provide help and guidance throughout the way. There are plenty of workshops, distinguished lectures, and conferences to attend, so there is always a lot to do as a PhD student in Southampton. This course does not only give you the title ‘Doctor of Philosophy’ but also meticulously prepares you for the world out there after graduation, helping you establish a network, develop exceptional research skills and pushes you to achieve your best at every step of the way, regardless of whether you want to pursue an academic career or a career in industry."

Ivan's PhD is researching “Alternative Theorisations of Entrepreneurial Success” funded by FSS Presidential Scholarship.
