I am a Postgraduate Research Student in politics within the school of Economic, Social, and Political Sciences.

My research examines the way ordinary citizens try and influence politics. When do they do so, why do they do so, and – most significantly - when do politicians respond to their efforts?

I completed my undergraduate degree in politics at the University of Southampton in 2019, and stayed on to complete a Masters in Social Research Methods funded through the South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership.

My ESRC-funded PhD focuses on the agenda setting impacts of public participation and is supervised by Matt Ryan and Will Jennings. I hope to identify the conditions which determine agenda-setting success, and how lessons learnt can help design future participatory efforts.

Research interests

As well as my PhD, I am also interested in:

  • Policy formation
  • Moral philosophy of policy selection
  • Philosophy of Democracy
  • Political party behaviour
  • Interest groups
  • The politics of paramilitarism
  • The politics and philosophy of Fascism
