Emily Henry is a Senior Teaching Fellow within the School of Education at Southampton University.

Emily has 15 years’ experience of teaching English and drama in secondary schools across the country. Her first teaching post was in Wolverhampton where she was Head of Drama and a teacher of English; she then moved to Dorset where she has worked in secondary schools locally as a Head of English.

Emily has always had a passion for teacher training and development; particularly for NQTS and teachers starting their careers and, following the birth of her son, she decided to take some time to pursue this as a full- time career. She worked for Ark schools as a Training Lead and as English Subject Lead which involved her offering real-time coaching and practical classroom support to trainees of all subjects in schools across London, Portsmouth and Birmingham. Her role also involved her planning and delivering the English subject specific training to the cohort of English trainees.

Emily joined the university on a permanent basis in September 2020, as a tutor on the English PGCE programme alongside Kate Freeth. Her role is to provide tutorial support to trainees and to design and deliver the English PGCE course.
