Clinical Training Fellow

Dr Helena Carley is a Clinical Training Fellow at the University of Southampton, and a Specialist Registrar in Clinical Genetics at Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, London.
Helena completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of Bristol, gaining an intercalated BSc in Physiology in 2008, and MBChB (Medicine) in 2010. She undertook Foundation Doctor training in the Kent Surrey Sussex Deanery, before spending a year working for the Canterbury District Health Board, New Zealand. She completed her Core Medical Training in the West Midlands and commenced specialty training in Clinical Genetics in 2016 at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, with subsequent posts at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In 2020, she undertook a 12-month Clinical Fellow post in Cancer Genetics at St George’s Hospital, and is the UK Cancer Genetics Group SpR Representative.
Helena has a special interest in ethical issues arising from genetic practice and is currently taking time out of her clinical training to work with the CELS group. She is particularly interested in fostering situated ethical decision-making in clinical practice.
