Module overview
Welcome to the “Realising Success” module. This is where you are going to learn how to create a successful future and make the most of opportunities at university to maximise success and get yourself in a competitive position.
The module is designed to ensure that by the end of Year One, you will have the confidence and knowledge to navigate your future career. By the end of the MANG1016 Realising Success, you as a Southampton Business Student will have the edge over the competition when applying for summer internships, year-long placements, and other work opportunities.
You will identify with what sort of sectors you might want to work in, whether it be Marketing, Sales, Finance, Procurement and how to succeed in an increasingly competitive market. This module will help to support you in making the most of the opportunities available to you during your studies.
The module has been created with insight from top employers and is run by the Placements Office in Southampton Business School due to our industry expertise.

- Identify effective communication, interpersonal and other critical skills in preparation for the recruitment process
- develop own confidence in the ability to effectively represent key skills in preparation for the recruitment process

- effectively research specific roles and industries and articulate your relevant professional abilities, personal goal setting towards identifying a suitable placement opportunity.
Syllabus
You will be supported throughout the module through a series of lectures, seminars, peer support sessions with experienced placement students and online learning. These will help in gaining a competitive application together with an understanding on how to professionally represent yourself virtually and in person. The module content will vary depending on industry need or changes in recruitment processes, however topics will include:

Resources & Reading list
General Resources
Microsoft Teams. Teams could be used as part of the recruitment process. It is therefore essential for students to familiarise themselves with this platform. Throughout the module there will be Teams activities.
Blackboard Ultra. The online learning activities are incorporated on MANG1016 Blackboard Ultra. The tasks created on Blackboard Ultra need to be completed as part of the formative assessment which includes journal activities and a 3 minute RMAP recording as part of the formative assessment. Notifications of further resources/seminars/opportunities are provided on this Blackboard Ultra. Group discussions and enquiries will also be held on Blackboard.

Assessment strategy
Types of Assessment This module includes two assessments: one formative and one summative: 1. Formative Assessment – RMAP Recording (3 minutes maximum) A short video recording submitted via Blackboard Ultra, assessment tab. Helps you practise articulating your motivation for a chosen job advert, identify strengths and development needs, and set SMART objectives. You must complete online study weeks 1–6 before recording. This assessment is not graded, but audio feedback will be provided during Semester Two. Tools used: Blackboard Ultra, Turnitin, Panopto (if required for upload). 2. Summative Assessment – Individual Employability Portfolio (IEP) A written portfolio submitted via Turnitin LT1 through the link on Blackboard Ultra. This assessment is marked and determines your final module grade. Tools used: Blackboard Ultra, Turnitin LT1. Assessment Weighting Formative Assessment – RMAP Recording: 0% Does not contribute to your final module grade. Designed to support your development and prepare you for the summative assessment. Summative Assessment – Individual Employability Portfolio (IEP): 100% This is the only graded assessment for the module. You must achieve 40% or above to pass the module and progress to your second year on programme. If you do not achieve 40%, you will be given an opportunity to complete a referral assessment in line with university regulations. Although this assessment determines your module result, the grade does not contribute to your overall degree classification.Formative
