Module overview
Marine power and auxiliary systems are at the heart of modern ships, providing the energy needed for propulsion, onboard services and safe operation. Understanding how these systems function is essential for engineers involved in vessel design, operation and maintenance.
In this module, you will develop the engineering knowledge required to understand and evaluate marine power plants, drive trains and supporting ship systems. You will explore the principles underlying machinery operation, thermodynamic performance, energy conversion and vibration behaviour, while developing the analytical skills needed to assess system efficiency and performance. Throughout the module, theory will be linked to practical engineering applications encountered across the maritime industry.
