Module overview

Successful engineering projects require more than technical expertise—they demand creativity, strategic thinking and effective management. This module brings together advanced mechanical engineering design with the business and management principles needed to transform engineering ideas into successful products and systems. Working on a substantial engineering design challenge, you will apply the knowledge and skills developed throughout your degree to create innovative engineering solutions within a realistic professional context. Alongside the technical design process, you will explore the principles of strategic management, marketing and operations management, developing an understanding of how engineering decisions are influenced by commercial, organisational and customer considerations. Throughout the module, you will strengthen your design, decision-making, communication and project management skills while gaining valuable experience of engineering practice. By the end of the module, you will be able to approach engineering design from both technical and managerial perspectives, equipping you with the multidisciplinary skills needed to lead engineering projects and deliver successful engineering solutions in industry.
