Module overview

The vehicles of the future must be safer, more efficient and more environmentally sustainable than ever before. This module explores the engineering principles that underpin modern vehicle design, developing the knowledge needed to understand how automobiles perform, handle and respond under real driving conditions. You will investigate the dynamics of road vehicles, examining how engineers optimise performance, handling, ride quality and overall vehicle behaviour. Through engineering analysis and modelling, you will develop an understanding of the interactions between vehicle systems and the design decisions that influence safety, comfort, efficiency and environmental performance. Throughout the module, emphasis is placed on applying engineering principles to the design challenges facing the next generation of road vehicles. By the end of the module, you will be able to evaluate and analyse vehicle performance from a systems perspective, providing a strong foundation for careers in automotive engineering, motorsport and sustainable transportation technologies.
