Module overview

The global transition to electrification is transforming industries ranging from renewable energy and electric vehicles to robotics, marine propulsion and advanced manufacturing. This module develops the knowledge and engineering skills needed to understand how electrical power is generated, converted, controlled and delivered within modern engineering systems. You will explore the principles of electrical machines, power electronics and power system analysis, developing an understanding of how these technologies work together to create efficient, reliable and sustainable energy systems. Through analytical modelling and engineering design, you will investigate the operation and performance of motors, generators and power conversion technologies used in real engineering applications. Along the way, you will strengthen your ability to analyse complex electrical systems and evaluate engineering solutions for emerging technologies. By the end of the module, you will be able to analyse and assess modern electrical power and drive systems with confidence, providing an excellent foundation for careers in electrification, renewable energy, transportation, robotics and advanced manufacturing.
