Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• Discuss the various aspects of the industry in which they work, including the internal company structure and the wider landscape of their sector.
• Describe the purpose of their role within the context of the business and the contribution it makes to the organisation as a whole.
• Identify areas for personal, and career development, and how these can be addressed.
• Identify the skills, attributes and behaviours required for the sector in which they are placed.
• Evaluate the development of their skills, attributes and behaviours over the course of the Year in Employment.

Due to the wide variety of experiences gained on a placement, each experience will be different, but the module may include:

• Choosing an appropriate placement
• Making placement applications
• Workload management
• Utilising constructive criticism
• Developing Commercial Awareness
• Ethics and responsibility in the workplace
• Collecting relevant material to inform the Reflective Learning report
• Post-placement Reflective Seminar

In addition, you may also build useful employability skills such as communication, negotiation and problem solving

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching and learning methods include

⦁Induction, preparation sessions, one to one tutoring and placement workshops = 10%

⦁Online resources on a monthly basis via Blackboard= 3%

⦁Independent study = 5%

⦁Mentoring from Workplace Supervisor = 5%

⦁Critical reflection on personal workplace performance = 7%

⦁Development of employability skills = 25%

⦁Advancement of critical thinking through business practice = 10%

⦁Enhancement of skills in a professional work environment = 35%

Blackboard Blog

Students will be encouraged to produce a Blackboard blog throughout their placement to inform the end of placement report. The blog will support learning and evidence of it will be a necessary part of the end of placement report. Students will be expected to use the e-learning resources from Blackboard to support the writing of the blog and monthly entries should be uploaded via Blackboard. Feedback will be provided at three fixed points throughout your placement.

NB. Alternative use of a logbook is permitted if Blackboard is inaccessible. Please discuss in advance with the Work Experience team.
