Jo Corney is a part-time PhD student at Southampton Education School, University of Southampton.

Research interests

Jo’s interests lie in the inclusion of children with additional needs within mainstream education, with a particular focus on autistic children. Her masters thesis was on “The realities of mainstream education for parents of autistic children”.

For her PhD, Jo will be exploring the impact nurture groups have on autistic secondary school pupils. The children’s voices are central to this study. The research follows on from Jo’s undergraduate thesis, which examined the extent to which one school’s nurture group helped all its pupils develop an attachment to schooling.

Jo is a member of Centre for Research in Inclusion (CRI) and the Autism Community Research Network @Southampton (ACoRNS).

Her research supervisor's are Professor Sarah Parsons and Associate Professor Vasilis Strogilos
