Dr Ryan Buchanan is an NIHR funded Academic Clinical Lecturer in Hepatology at the University of Southampton.
Ryan is passionate about understanding the social epidemiology of liver disease and using this to develop interventions to reduce morbidity and mortality.
Ryan was appointed as an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Hepatology at the University of Southampton in 2018. Ryan has continued his research into the social epidemiology of liver disease and complex interventions to reduce liver related morbidity in the community. This works has included: developing a community pharmacy based care pathway for Hepatitis C and alcohol related liver disease and designing and testing a new pathway for people who are homeless. Ryan has also led meta-analyses quantifying the risks of multi-morbidity in liver disease and is lead for the Southampton Hepatitis C elimination taskforce.
Ryan is supported by grants from Gilead LTD, the Wessex NIHR Applied Research Collaboration and the Academy of Medical Sciences.
