Dr. Ramy Hammady is a Senior Lecturer in Design Leadership at the University of Southampton, with over 15 years of international experience in academia and industry. He holds a PhD in Digital Design and Technology from Staffordshire University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Dr. Hammady is recognized as a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) in Mixed Reality since 2021, highlighting his significant contributions to the field.
In his role as an XR Consultant for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN ESCWA), Dr. Hammady contributed to strategic digital knowledge initiatives and founded the XR Space Community, promoting innovation in design-led technologies.
Dr. Hammady's research focuses on the intersection of design strategy and technological innovation, with key interests in design leadership, human-centered design, human-computer interaction (HCI), user interface and user experience design (UI/UX), and emerging technologies such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and serious games. He has led several landmark projects, including MuseumEye and immersive applications for museums in Cairo, Leeds, and Manchester. His pioneering work with Microsoft HoloLens since 2016 underscores his leadership in integrating AI-enhanced XR systems within sectors like cultural heritage, education, and professional training.
Additionally, Dr. Hammady has secured significant external funding, including a £250,000 Innovate UK grant to develop a transformative UI/UX solution for the heat pump industry, in collaboration with the University of Essex.
He also serves as an Associate Editor for Virtual Reality and Human Behaviour, supporting scholarly discourse on immersive human-technology interaction.
