Biography

Adam works in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton for half his week where he is a Clinical Professor of Public Health, Director of the NIHR Public Health Research (PHR) Programme and Deputy Director of the NIHR Research Support Service Specialist Centre for Public Health (University of Southampton and Partners). For the other half of his week, Adam is Deputy Director of Public Health at Oxfordshire County Council.

His research includes various areas of public health policy, including risk factors for ill health and community involvement in research.

Before joining the University of Southampton, Adam was a Senior Policy Fellow at the Health Foundation leading on public health policy, and between 2020 and 2022 he worked as Public Health Strategy Advisor to the Chief Medical Advisor at NHS Test and Trace, and then as interim Deputy Director for Health Equity, Strategy and Partnerships at the UK Health Security Agency. 

Adam studied medicine at Oxford, his DPhil was in public health economic modelling, and he was a Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice in 2017-18. He lives in Oxford and outside of work he enjoys running and cycling, and playing football with his daughters.
