Alfie Banks is a Visiting Fellow in the Centre for Imperial and Postcolonial Studies. His research explores the cultural and political history of the British Empire, with a particular focus on heroic reputations, historical memory, and commemoration. He is an alumnus of the University of Southampton and a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society.
His current research examines the posthumous reputations and commemoration of imperial figures, exploring how their heroic reputations were constructed, adapted, and contested across the British Empire in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This builds upon his previous work examining the shifting imperial "afterlives" of figures such as Warren Hastings and James Wolfe.
