Current research

Pavel is interested in understanding how simple macroscopic laws emerge from complicated microscopic systems. He draws on ideas from quantum field theory, statistical physics, gravity, and holography, which provides a remarkable connection between strongly interacting quantum matter and the physics of black holes in extra dimensions. His research addresses questions such as how fluids flow and approach equilibrium, how Einstein’s relativity can be incorporated into continuum mechanics, and how matter behaves under extreme conditions.
