Hailing from Fife, Scotland, Derri obtained an MChem Chemistry degree from Bangor University in 2022, where for his Master's project, he studies the quantum dynamics of non-annihilative antiproton-N2 collisions. Later that year, he began a PhD in Chemical Physics, under the supervision of Prof. Russell Minns, specialising in the use of time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy to observe the gas-phase reaction dynamics of molecules relevent to interstellar space and planetary atmospheres. During this time, Derri began an ongoing collaboration with Dr Sam Perry to research and develop methods of integrating Python programming effectively into undergraduate Chemistry laboratories.
Currently, Derri works for the Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure, working on best practices for the storage, handling, and long-term preservation of research data.
