Research interests

My research is directed at understanding more about how the brain processes perceptual information. Our perceptual experience is rich in detail, and the automatic nature of perception belies the complex processing involved.

Work in Progress

I am currently investigating the role of natural scenes statistics on human visual processing. The SYNS dataset is the result of an EPSRC-funded project in which we collected 3D range and image data across a large number of different categories of rural and urban environments.

We can use datasets like SYNS to evaluate and characterise the visual world. Starting with the hypothesis that the statistical structure of our environment may lead to measurable biases in how we see the world, lab-based studies investigate how our experience in the world has shaped our visual system.
