Research project: Neuropsychology of neurofibromatosis - Dormant - Dormant

Childhood academic learning difficulties are variously estimated to affect between 30 and 50 per cent of those with Nf1 although no consensus exists as to a distinctive cognitive profile for children with Nf1. (Cutting et al. 2004).

However, specific executive function processes have been identified by previous research indicating problems with visual spatial judgment, motor co-ordination and organisational skills. EF deficits might also explain the social problems experienced by patients with Nf1). In psychological studies it has been suggested EF and ToM are fundamentally linked. ToM may therefore have implications to the underlying aetiology of emotional and social behaviours in people with Nf1.
