Our research
We work to advance technologies that enable human to human and human to machine interaction, including devices that interact directly with the brain.
Areas we investigate include:
- the quality and intelligibility of speech in noisy environments
- speech detection using sensors
- technology that allows devices to communicate with humans
A particular focus of our research is the design of digital communication tools for healthcare, such as apps for the remote monitoring of patients’ health.
Benefits include:
- increased patient engagement and empowerment
- more efficient and cost-effective services
- health issues being identified and managed earlier
We also:
- develop technology to enable greater participation in work, education and leisure
- steer future improvements in classroom and learning technology
- devise digital communication technologies to support the workforce
- improve access to, and enjoyment of, entertainment, gaming and the arts
