Research project

Children and Age-Appropriate Game Design

Project overview

An SSHRC-funded, cross-cultural and cross-sector research collaboration that seeks to revisit how children’s games are regulated in Canada and the UK, to investigate and address potential regulatory gaps, particularly those relating to children’s privacy and other rights, and to new ethical questions raised by in-game advertising, monetization, and algorithmic profiling. The project is a response to the General Comment (no. 25) on Children’s Rights in the Digital Environment that was recently adopted by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
