LungVoAi

Project overview

Chauhan (FEPS), Welch (FELS): LUNGVOAI: AI enabled lung function assessment from voice on smartphones.
Industrial Link: Eupnoos

February – July 2022

The project aims to demonstrate the practicality of using smart phones as a lung function estimator by using the voice for lung assessment tests on smartphones. Performing, or using a proxy lung function measurement on smartphones would provide a scalable, cheap and ubiquitous means to measure lung health anywhere thereby enabling point of care diagnostics and person-centred self-monitoring.

The project team aim to investigate the potential of leveraging voice as an indicator by analysing vowel sounds;
• to explore performance of traditional machine learning approaches in predicting lung function estimates – comparing voice biomarkers and baseline spirometry;
• to explore the performance of AI approaches in predicting lung function estimates – comparing voice biomarkers and baseline spirometry.

The project aligns with the knowledge exchange activities: developing and maturing new technologies ideas and inventions; co-creation of innovation.
