Skippered yacht charters are available for family and friends of University of Southampton staff. Bareboat charters are available to anyone with the correct qualifications.
Skippered charters
Our skippered yachts take up to 8 clients for a days sailing. Our skippers have in-depth knowledge of the Solent and beyond and will base the day on your needs. They know where to go to have a great day!
A day's sailing on a Solent yacht charter is ideal for special occasions or corporate team building. We set sail from Town Quay in Southampton. We hoist the sails near to Mayflower and sail up Southampton Water towards Calshot Spit.
You may like to have a picnic lunch on the yacht at anchor. Depending on the weather, your skipper will suggest the best location for an anchorage. Often, we use Osbourne Bay, overlooked by Queen Victoria’s Osbourne house.
An alternative to lunch at anchor would be mooring up at West Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Mooring fees are not included in the charter and will be approximately £30 for a short-term stay. Once in West Cowes you are welcome to eat in a restaurant of your choosing.
In the afternoon, we set sail back across the Central Solent. We arrive back into Southampton Water and north to Town Quay.

Induction
If you have the correct qualifications you will need to attend an induction with one of our watersports staff. We will assess your practical ability during the induction. Our staff reserve the right to decline your request to charter. For condition of charter, please see our Yacht Charter Agreement.

RYA Sailability Program
Our RYA Sailability program provides accessible sailing experiences for individuals with additional needs. Sessions are tailored to each participant's abilities to ensure an inclusive and enjoyable experience on the water.
Our sailability sessions:
take place aboard our stable Flying Formula sailing yacht
provide a safe and supportive environment to learn the basics of sailing
are led by experienced instructors
run for 2 hours
leave from Town Quay
We can also run bespoke sessions for small groups.
You can cancel or reschedule a booking by contacting the Jubilee Sports Centre. Your options depend on how much notice you give us. Notice periods are based on the date of your booking, not on the start time.

When we might cancel your booking
We might need to cancel a booking if:
the weather means we cannot safely run a course
staff members are sick and their absence cannot be covered
we cannot meet our minimum student-instructor ratio
If we need to cancel your booking, we’ll always try to give you at least 24 hours' notice. We’ll also offer to reschedule your booking.
