About the project
This project focuses on enabling an optical transmitter to transmit data at 100Gbaud per second.
It builds on work the team has done to:
- enhance the throughput of optical transmitters
- transfer functions traditionally done with electronics to optical means
These improvements have the potential to save costs and energy and to dramatically improve performance.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a background in analogue electronics and an interest in photonics. As part of the silicon photonics team, you will:
- help co-design the electronic and photonic devices that will enable the novel 100Gbaud/s transmitter
- undertake the millimetre-wave CMOS chip tape-outs
- conduct the practical implementation of electronics-photonics device packaging
The project benefits from the expertise and engagement of its industrial partner, Rockley Photonics in the UK, and its academic partner, Peking University in China.
It is funded by the EPSRC grant ‘Towards a revolution in optical communications’.
