About the project
Find ways to reduce noise and vibration in industrial and other settings by using multiple control devices. Test these decentralised and distributed systems in simulations and experiements with this fully funded industrial studentship.
The relatively mature technology of active noise and vibration control is not straightforward to apply in settings with widely distributed control sources and error sensors. You’d investigate the limits to using decentralised and distributed control architectures to reduce these control systems’ number of connections.
You’ll carry out this project using a range of numerical and experimental techniques and the extensive experimental facilities at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a team to develop intelligent systems for low noise environments. It is supported by the multi-million pound EPSRC Prosperity Partnership with BAE Systems, Lloyds Register and the University of Nottingham’s Centre for Additive Manufacturing.
A large industrial collaborator’s support brings potential opportunities, helping to ensure that your research has a direct impact on real-world engineering.
You’ll be based in the Signal Processing, Audio and Hearing Group of the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research. This is home to an internationally renowned research group working in diverse areas of signal processing and control.
