About the project

Focus on interdisciplinary studies applying state-of-the-art computational and experimental methodologies to medical research, quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Our 4-year funded studentships will start before the end of January 2024. ​

Our studentships are open to students with experience and passion in the following areas:

  • data or computer science
  • epidemiology
  • microbiology
  • bacteriology
  • nutrition
  • perioperative and prehabilitation care 

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funds the NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The BRC is a partnership between the University of Southampton (UoS) and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). 

The BRC takes new discoveries, treatments and technologies into the clinic. It uses unique tools and facilities to improve people's health and resilience throughout life.

We are pleased to offer funded PhD studentships in the following key research areas:

You'll be based in Southampton at UoS and UHS or with collaborators at the Health Protection Agency, Porton Down. You will join a vibrant community of students researching topics including:

  • inflammatory or infectious diseases
  • nutrition
