About the project

The Stefan Cross Centre (SCC) for Women, Equality and Law at Southampton Law School welcomes project proposals from candidates with an interest in law and gender equality.

The Stefan Cross Centre was founded in 2018, with the purpose of raising awareness of discrimination against women and girls, investigating the causes of this discrimination and seeking effective solutions.

It provides a space to research the structural, societal, legal and regulatory issues associated with gender discrimination from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Its research seeks to better understand the roots of the phenomenon, raise awareness about it and find more effective ways to address it.

Proposals can focus on any aspect of law or the legal system which fits with the centre’s aims (subject to fitting with the research interests of potential supervisors).
