Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • Search for information about a particular topic in the academic literature
  • Understand how to structure a report on a technical topic
  • Give a presentation on a technical topic

Syllabus

Students undertake a literature study on a topic in OR of their own choice. They are required to produce a written report and to give a short oral presentation of their work. Lectures are given on the following topics: • How to write an OR report • How to give an OR presentation • Library skills

This is a self-study module; therefore, the majority of work will be carried out by students independently. In addition, students will be given 6 hours of lectures.

Assessment

Assessment Strategy

Summative assessment Oral presentation - individual presentation on a topic of the student’s choosing in the general area of Written report - individual report on a topic of the student’s choosing in the general area Referral/repeat assessment If the Oral presentation was previously done, the mark is retained, at 25%, with a written report 75%. If the presentation was not previously done, a written report only is assessed at 100%.
