Advanced Practical Skills in Chemistry
This module will develop communication and practical skills that build on those developed through lab modules undertaken in years 1 and 2 of the Chemistry degree programmes.
The course will extend this vital skill by enabling students to undertake a series of advanced/open ended experiments. Each experiment is designed to demonstrate different research areas and allow students to develop the skills necessary to conduct an independent investigation.
As part of the module students will also produce a detailed literature review under the guidance of an academic supervisor. -

Advanced Practice
The advanced practice module builds on the therapeutic foundations of the first two years of the programme, and extends this to include advanced therapeutic skills but also a breadth of other clinical psychology competencies. The module covers leadership, organisational and systemic influence, intervening with teams, and considering the role of clinical psychologists in the promotion of public health and prevention of ill health; core responsibilities of clinical psychologists beyond individual therapy.
A proportion of lecturers in this module are accredited with specific professional accreditation bodies (BABCP, AFT, Neuro) and therefore trainees may be able to use these teaching hours towards their accreditation. Please see each of the pathways handbooks for more information.
Trainees may be able to use the module’s case report towards their accreditation provided that specific requirements set by professional accreditation bodies are met by the trainee. For further information, please check the module’s assignment guideline. -

Advanced professional planning and engagement
This module supports you in developing the knowledge, skills and confidence required to establish yourself as a professional illustrator within a diverse and evolving creative landscape. It focuses on helping you identify and articulate your individual practice, positioning your work within relevant cultural, social and industry contexts, and preparing you for a range of career pathways including freelance, studio-based, collaborative and further study routes.
Through workshops, tutorials and professional development activities, you will explore how illustrators operate within contemporary creative industries. This includes developing your understanding of audiences, markets and contexts, alongside producing portfolios, applications and professional materials. You will also engage with strategies for building sustainable careers, including networking, self-promotion and establishing professional relationships.
A key aspect of the module is the exploration of different models of professional practice and project development. You will investigate a range of funding, commissioning and support mechanisms that enable illustrators to initiate and sustain their work, developing skills in proposing projects and articulating the value and impact of your practice.
The module emphasises reflective practice to support the development of a coherent and adaptable professional identity.
After completing this module, students may present themselves on WSA EXCHANGE, the School’s enterprise website, to showcase their work to external audiences. -

This module covers concepts in programming languages that go beyond those typically seen or are new to mainstream languages. The goal is to encourage students to look beyond traditional programming practice by introducing new tools and techniques inspired by recent research in programming language theory and practice. Each concept introduced in the module will be supported by considering existing practical implementations of that concept in a variety of programming languages. Students taking this module should have working knowledge of OO languages, Functional Programming, Type Systems and be comfortable learning new programming languages. -

Advanced Public International Law
International law is about governments collaboratively as well as competitively trying to regulate world affairs. It includes issues as diverse as a government’s treatment of its citizens (international human rights law), the circumstances in which a state can take military action against or in another state, and ongoing efforts to prevent catastrophic changes in the earth’s climate.
This module builds on LAWS 2035 Introduction to Public International Law by introducing you to the jurisdictional framework (in both spatial and conceptual senses) of the international legal order, the secondary obligations that arise when a primary one is breached and the rules on the resort to force. We will explore how, by whom, and with what results law has been used to shape or attempt to shape the world in which we live by constraining the conduct of states and other international actors.
