Currently Active:
Yes

This projected was co-investigated by Professor Kevin Donnelly and Professor Ann-Kristin Wallengren.

In 2014-15, Kevin Donnelly was co-investigator on a project about film music and laboratory experiments. It was housed at the University of Lund in Sweden’s Digital Humanities Laboratory and co-investigated by Professor Ann-Kristin Wallengren. It had official funding of SK250,000 from the Erik Philip Sorensen Foundation, and included a succession of scientifically-inspired laboratory-based experiments on subjects and their reaction to and understandings of film excerpts played with different music. The project concluded with a symposium involving international film music specialists and psychologists, and not only brought together two well-separated disciplines but also exploited technology and scientific experimentation in a manner to which arts and humanities research is unaccustomed. The results of the project were published in a coedited special issue of a journal. K.J.Donnelly and Ann-Kristin Wallengren, eds., ‘Laboratory Experiments and Psychology of Film Music’ special issue of Music and the Moving Image, vol.8, issue 2, Summer 2015 (University of Illinois Press).
