About
Dr. M. Julius Hossain currently serves as the Head of Image and Data Analysis Group at the Centre for Cancer Immunology, University of Southampton. He holds a PhD in Computer Vision and Image Analysis and has a strong background in interdisciplinary research, utilizing computational and artificial intelligence-based methods to address fundamental biological questions related to cancer biology, cell division, antibody trafficking, disease diagnosis, and drug discovery.
Dr. Hossain has a proven track record in leading the development of complex computational frameworks for large scale collaborative research projects. He is recognized as the lead developer of the first atlas for human cell division (http://www.mitocheck.org/mitotic_cell_atlas), which maps essential mitotic proteins in space and time (Hossain* and Cai* et. al. Nature, 2018; *co-first author).
In addition to his role as a researcher, Dr. Hossain has extensive experience in teaching and securing research grants at various institutions around the world. He has successfully led or co-led research grant and fellowship applications totaling over GBP 2 million. His research has been featured in prestigious journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Cell Biology, and Nature Structural and Molecular Biology.

Biography
Dr. Hossain was trained as a computational scientist and obtained his PhD degree in computer vision and image processing from Kyung Hee University, South Korea. He conducted postdoctoral research in the area of biomedical image analysis at Dublin City University, Ireland. He spent 10 years at the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit, European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Germany where he lead interdisciplinary projects and teams to study different biological systems and processes. He designed and implemented various cutting edge computational intelligence methods to answer fundamental biological questions. His research outputs were published in a number of most prestigious journals including Nature, Science, Nature Cell Biology, Nature structural and Molecular Biology, Nature Communications and Nature Protocols, eLife etc. Dr. Hossain had spent more than a year in the industry as a Software Engineer before he started his academic career at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh as a full time Lecturer. He was later promoted to an Assistant Professor in the same department.
Dr. Hossain is currently working as the Head of Image and Data Analysis Group in the Ward Ober Lab at the Centre for Cancer Immunology, University of Southampton. UK. His current research focus includes quantitative approach to study antibody-based cancer therapeutics, modelling cellular and embryonic structures, parameterization of dynamic protein distributions in the mamalian cell.
