Dr. Zixu Liu is a Lecturer in Decision Analytics and Risk at Southampton Business School, the University of Southampton. His main research areas are machine learning, information system, and decision making. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science at The University of Manchester (2013-2017), MSc in Computation and Game Theory at the University of Liverpool (2012-2013), and BSc in Computer Science and Technology at Jilin University (China, 2007-2011).
Before joining the University of Southampton, he worked as a data scientist at Crop Science Centre from Oct 2020 to Aug 2022, a research institution in association with the University of Cambridge, Department of Plant Sciences, and NIAB. During the period from Mar 2018 to Sep 2020, he worked as a Research Associate for the Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester.

Current research
Zixu's main research areas are machine learning, information system, and decision making. His research mainly uses state-of-the-art computer technics from machine learning, and optimization to solve the business analytics problems such as multicriteria decision-making problems, electricity market dynamic pricing, and object counting and size estimation problems. Also, he utilizes his programming skills and knowledge of soft engineering to transfer his research and knowledge to Industry. This is normally achieved by designing and implementing an information system to apply the advanced algorithms from his research. The designed information system is web- and cloud-based which provides a user-friendly API that can be conveniently used by the industry.

Biography
Before joining the University of Southampton, Dr. Zixu Liu worked for the Crop Science Centre (a research institution in association with the University of Cambridge, Department of Plant Sciences, and NIAB), as a research staff in the data science department. Prior to that, he worked as a research associate in the Data Visualisation Observatory, The University of Manchester. During the period 03.2018-09.2019, Dr. Zixu Liu worked on an EU 2020 project: DIGICOR (Decentralised Agile Coordination Across Supply Chains) in Alliance Manchester Business School. DIGICOR is an €8m project funded by the European Commission under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (grant agreement n° 723336) involving Airbus, Comau, SingularLogic, Fortiss, and other key players from the aviation industry and enterprise software systems.
